A program created to support refugees and immigrants with disabilities. We believe every person deserves to be seen first for their humanity not defined by disability, displacement, language barriers, or poverty.
Refugees with disabilities often face layered challenges, including limited healthcare access, cultural stigma, social isolation, and difficulty navigating complex systems. This initiative exists to remove barriers and ensure individuals and families receive support with dignity.
Human first; always. See the person. Remove the barrier.
We provide culturally responsive support that helps refugees and immigrants with disabilities access services, build confidence, and participate fully in community life.
Our work includes:
- Resource Navigation & Advocacy — connecting families to healthcare, disability services, education support, accommodations, and employment pathways.
- Culturally Responsive Family Support — offering language-accessible guidance, family education, and community conversations that reduce stigma.
- Youth & Family Empowerment — creating inclusive spaces through mentorship, sports, wellness, leadership, and peer connection.
- Community Awareness & Inclusion — partnering with schools, providers, and organizations to build more accessible systems.

Human First Initiative works with families, schools, healthcare providers, nonprofits, volunteers, and community leaders to expand access and inclusion.
