Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Our Challenge

Across the world; from Louisville, Kentucky to Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya immigrant and refugee families face deeply interconnected barriers that limit opportunity, well-being, and belonging.

Many families live in poverty and instability, navigating unfamiliar systems without adequate support. Language barriers make it difficult to access healthcare, education, and employment, while gaps in transportation, housing, and digital access further isolate families from critical resources.

Globally, these challenges are compounded by displacement, trauma, and systemic inequities. Many young people take on adult responsibilities serving as translators, caregivers, and advocates while trying to build their own futures.

For youth, this often results in:

  • Limited access to safe spaces and enrichment opportunities
  • Gaps in education, mentorship, and career pathways
  • Mental health challenges tied to trauma, isolation, and identity

For women and families:

  • Cultural and language barriers to employment and services
  • Limited access to leadership and economic opportunities
  • Social isolation and lack of culturally responsive support systems

Without intentional, community-centered solutions, these barriers reinforce cycles of exclusion, inequity, and missed potential.

Our Solution

More Than A Smile Foundation addresses these interconnected barriers through a holistic, community-led model that expands opportunity, well-being, and belonging.

We meet families where they are, delivering culturally responsive programs that integrate mentorship, education, mental health support, sports, and economic empowerment. By centering lived experience, we ensure our programs are trusted, accessible, and reflective of the communities we serve.

Globally, our approach responds to displacement, trauma, and systemic inequities by building consistent, relationship-based systems of support. We create safe, inclusive spaces that reduce isolation, strengthen resilience, and connect individuals to critical resources and opportunities.

For youth, this means:

  • Access to safe spaces and enrichment opportunities
  • Pathways to education, mentorship, and career development
  • Mental health support that affirms identity, belonging, and resilience

For women and families:

  • Language-accessible pathways to employment and services
  • Leadership development and economic empowerment opportunities
  • Community spaces that reduce isolation and build strong support networks

We break cycles of exclusion and create pathways for leadership, stability, and long-term, community-driven change.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower immigrant, refugee, and underserved youth and families to overcome systemic barriers and thrive through mentorship, education, and culturally responsive, community-led support.

Rooted in lived experience, we create safe spaces where individuals feel seen, supported, and equipped to build confident, healthy, and successful futures.
