What Belonging Looks Like: A Day at More Than A Smile Foundation
Walk into a More Than A Smile Foundation program and you will notice something right away.
The noise. The laughter. The smell of food from a dozen different cultures. Children running. Adults talking. Someone translating for someone else. A teenager helping a younger kid with a craft project. A mother watching her daughter accept an award.
It does not feel like a nonprofit program. It feels like a community.
That is not an accident. More Than A Smile Foundation was built by and for immigrant and refugee families in Louisville — and every program we run is designed to feel like a place where you belong, not a service you are receiving.
We asked some of the families and youth we serve to describe what that feels like. Here is what they said:
“When I come here, I do not have to explain myself. Everyone already understands.”
“My kids have friends here who look like them, talk like them, eat the same food. That matters more than I can say.”
“I came to Louisville not knowing anyone. More Than A Smile Foundation gave me a community.”
“My daughter spoke at the conference this year. I cried the whole time. I never thought she would have a stage like that.”
This is what More Than A Smile Foundation is for. Not just programs. Not just services. A place where immigrant and refugee families in Louisville can show up fully — and leave knowing they are seen, supported, and celebrated.
If you want to help us build more of this, we would love to have you. Volunteer. Donate. Partner with us. Or just come to an Engagement Night and see for yourself.
