Engagement Nights Are Back: Food, Fun, and Belonging
There is no agenda. No intake form. No eligibility requirement. You just show up, and you belong.
That is the promise of More Than A Smile Foundation’s Engagement Nights — and it is one we have been keeping for years.
What Happens at an Engagement Night
Once a month, we open the doors and invite the community in. Immigrant and refugee families from across Louisville come together for shared meals, games, music, and conversation. Children run. Adults talk. Teenagers find each other. Elders sit and watch and smile.
The food is real — dishes from the communities we serve, made with care, shared freely. The games are simple. The laughter is loud. And the feeling in the room is something that is hard to describe if you have never experienced it: a kind of ease that comes from being around people who understand your life without needing it explained.
For many of the families who attend, Engagement Nights are one of the few spaces in Louisville where they feel fully at home.
Why We Do This
More Than A Smile Foundation runs programs. We offer services. We connect families to resources. But we have always known that programs and services are not enough on their own.
Community is built in the in-between moments. In the shared meal. In the conversation that starts because two families are sitting next to each other. In the friendship that forms between two children who discover they are from the same city back home.
Engagement Nights are where that happens. They are not a program. They are a practice — a regular, consistent commitment to showing up for each other.
Who Should Come
Everyone. That is the honest answer.
If you are an immigrant or refugee family in Louisville, this is your space. If you are a neighbor who wants to understand the community around you, come. If you are a volunteer, a partner organization, or someone who just heard about us and wants to see what we do — come.
The only requirement is that you show up with an open heart.
Follow our Facebook page for dates, locations, and updates. We would love to see you at the next one.
