Beyond the Smile Conference 2026: Youth Voices, Big Stages
There is a moment at every Beyond the Smile Annual Conference that stops the room.
It is the moment when a young person — a teenager, sometimes younger — walks to the microphone and speaks. Not because an adult told them what to say. Not because they are reading from a script. But because they have something to say, and they have been given the space to say it.
This year, that moment happened more than once. And every time, the room went quiet in the best possible way.
What the Conference Is
The Beyond the Smile Annual Conference is More Than A Smile Foundation’s flagship youth leadership event. It brings together young people from across our programs, their families, community partners, funders, and supporters for a day of recognition, inspiration, and community.
The conference features youth presenters who share their stories and their work. It includes award ceremonies that recognize young leaders, volunteers, and community members who have made a difference. It creates space for the kind of celebration that immigrant and refugee youth do not always get to experience — being seen, honored, and applauded in a room full of people who believe in them.
This Year’s Highlights
The 2026 conference was our most powerful yet. Youth presenters stepped up to the microphone and spoke about their experiences navigating school, community, and identity. They were articulate, honest, and brave.
The award ceremony recognized young leaders who had gone above and beyond in their schools and communities. Families cheered. Some cried. The kind of crying that comes from watching someone you love be celebrated the way they deserve.
We also heard from community partners and funders who shared why they believe in this work — and what they have seen it produce. Their words mattered. But the youth voices mattered more.
Why This Conference Exists
More Than A Smile Foundation runs programs. But programs are not enough if the young people in them never get to stand up and be recognized.
The conference exists because we believe that visibility matters. That being seen — truly seen, in a room full of people who have shown up specifically for you — changes something in a young person. It tells them that their story is worth telling. That their leadership is real. That the future they are building toward is possible.
We will see you at the next one.
